Queens, New York. The home of the King of Queens, Kevin James. But, for one weekend only, someone else has taken over the title of The King of Queens, and that person, is Tony Khan.

AEW Double or Nothing (which is the price they paid for Travis Hunter and the amount of value they got out of him) is this weekend and it is a PACKED slate of both high action matches with the chance to steal the whole g d show and also the stadium stampede. We at TalentAlone predict every single major pay per view match for AEW and WWE in our quest to be exactly right on every single show and thus finally be allowed back on r/squaredcircle.

Our first PLE of the calendar was WWE Backlash where Mike and Adam both went 4-1… so nothing really notable. Probably could have just skipped that one and started with Double or Nothing. Maybe WWE should consider doing that too. With 9-matches and 5 belts on the line, there’s bound to be some more movement in the competition. Enough of this intro, lets get to the matches.

AEW Double Or Nothing Predictions

Men’s Owen Hart Cup Quarterfinal:

Samoa Joe vs Will Ospreay

ADAM: I don’t love the history of Owen Hart winners, but this match has a chance to be a lot of fun. This one feels like a toss up with a pretty good go home segment on Dynamite, yet I can’t help but project for the final.

WILL OSPREAY

MIKE: My money is on Death Rider Ospreay to win the whole thing, so needless to say, he’s winning here. This match could be a show stealer as well.

WILL OSPREAY

Men’s Owen Hart Cup Quarterfinal:

Bandido vs Swerve Strickland

MIKE: Dang, another banger of a match up in the first round. Swerve is not only one of the top guys in the company, but he should also be one of the most featured heels on TV for the next year. I’ll also go ahead and call my shot now, it’s going to be Swerve vs Ospreay in the finals.

SWERVE STRICKLAND

ADAM: I think the Osprey v Swerve final is too obvious not to pick. There is the slightest, slightest hint if getting a Brodito semi (which us what I- you know what never mind), but I think its a mistake to give up your final for that matchup.

SWERVE STRICKLAND

Women’s Owen Hart Cup Quarterfinal:

Athena vs Mina Shirakawa

ADAM: Athena has been rolling and while the Women’s tournament is a little light this year, I’ll continue to bet on her.

ATHENA

MIKE: Here we go again, it’s that time of the year. The time where Tony Khan give Athena some spotlight before sending her back to ROH Jail. Might as well enjoy it while it lasts.

ATHENA

ADAM: Could we put together an ROH Hall of Shame for the AEW wrestlers stuck in ROH?

AEW International Championship:

Kazuchika Okada(c) vs Konosuke Takeshita

MIKE: Earlier, I said that Ospreay vs Joe “could” steal the show. The word “could” is important because this match “will” steal the show. It took forever to finally get here, and I haven’t been crazy about some of the spots on the card these men were put in along the way, but we finally get to see two of the very best AEW has to offer in the ring face off. Hopefully we don’t get too much Don Callis shenanigans, however it seems inevitable. Like most matches including Okada my heart makes me want to pick The Rainmaker to win, however I’m actually taking Takeshita to get the win. Konosuke defeating Okada and winning the belt opens up a lot of interesting paths they could take booking wise.

KONOSUKE TAKESHITA

ADAM: HOT TAKE ALERT: I’d be more excited about this match if it didn’t involve one of AEW’s 622 mid card belts. With that out of the way, the conventional wrestling thinking is that The Rainmaker (™ TalentAloneProductions) should win because he left their last interaction laid out, but, Mike makes a great point here that Konosuke Takeshita is also in the match. Takeshita is one of those guys that I’ve been like “That young whippersnapper will have his day on the sun any minute now” but hes competing for a mid card belt in a bloated faction feud and is just about to turn 31. Its now or never Konosuke and unfortunately, it’s might be never.

KAZUCHIKA OKADA

AEW Continental Championship:

Jon Moxley(c) vs Kyle O’Reilly

ADAM: Can we talk about Kyle O’Reilly little backpack? How cute was that?! Makes it look like he just got picked up from taekwondo. KOR is making a push for his first singles title in his eternal struggle to prove dudes in Cageside Seats comments correct, but I don’t think this is the night.

JON MOXLEY

MIKE: There’s some good history here with O’Reily having tapped out Mox a couple times prior to his injury. This time however, Mox will get his win back. The submissions happened months ago, and with the way things stand now, there’s no reason to have Mox take an L or drop the belt. My prediction also has nothing to do with the fact that the name “The Conglomeration” and the group’s presentation is dumb.

JON MOXLEY

AEW Women’s Championship:

Thekla(c) vs Hikaru Shida vs Jamie Hayter vs Kris Statlander

MIKE: The whole Shida heel turn story is fine for what it is, and while Statlander and Hayter are good at what they do, they’re just not interesting characters right now.The champ on the other hand has momentum and is one of the acts that makes you feel like tuning into AEW. Thekla retains.

THEKLA

ADAM: With Shida vs Statlander probably being a thing during this match, it seems like it could devolve into a wholesale, Thekla vs Jamie Hayter, and while I have a lot of love for Hayter, she might just be the Nikit Kucherov to Thekla’s Nate MacKinnon when it’s all said and done.

THEKLA

AEW Tag Team Championship I Quit Match:

FTR (Dax Hardwood & Cash Wheeler)(c) vs Adam Copeland & Christian Cage

ADAM: This feud has mostly made me realize how short the combined arm length of FTR is. It feels like the obvious pick is to flip the belts to Cope and Cage especially after they lost their first match against FTR, but I can’t help but wonder if this is the Tony Khan “its a swerve bro” match of the night. FTR works about as well as anyone with the belts and The Pod of Awesome crew probably has a turn left in them before they call it a career. Face team wins from underneath in 4 months?

FTR

MIKE: Time for act three of this saga where Cope and Cage finally defeat FTR. The only way I see them losing is if they do a finish where Copeland quits because FTR are about to literally murder Christian. The idea of that result immediately brings to mind words like, “lame, stupid, corny, dumb, and lame.” Hopefully they cap off this story the simple ole fashioned way, by having those no good rotten heels finally get their comeuppance in as defeating a way as possible.

COPELAND & CHRISTIAN

Stadium Stampede Match:

Chris Jericho, The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin) & The Elite(Kenny Omega, Jack Perry, Matt & Nick Jackson) vs The Demand(Ricochet, Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona), The Don Callis Family(Mark Davis & Andre El Idolo) & The Dogs(Clark Connors & David Finlay)

MIKE: Are we sure we shouldn’t add a few more people to this thing? The match is going to be all over the place, filled with plenty of high spots and ha ha’s. Once the dust settles, and half of twitter is done overreacting to every little moment, the baby face squad will be victorious.

JERICHO, THE HURT SYNDICATE, & THE ELITE

ADAM: You know the thing abo- eh, fuck it, I don’t care about this one at all and one of these teams is much faster to type.

THE DON CALLIS FAMILY

AEW World Champion Title vs Hair:

Darby Allin(c) vs MJF

ADAM: Credit where credit is due, MJF and Darby have sold the hell out of this hair angle. Usually this over-gimmicked stuff on AEW overtakes the match itself (looking at you Chris Jericho) but MJF might be a generational heel and Darby is easy to root for. All the signs are pointing to a Darby win because MJF has grown out his hair enough to make it look like a big deal so I think there’s two possibilities.

  1. Darby wins and MJF gets out before his head is shaved.
  2. MJF Wins

Either way Dynamite should be a lot of fun after. I think the best storyline involves MJF eventually getting his head shaved so I’m going with my heart here.

DARBY ALLIN

MIKE: AEW has a track record of setting up matches with stipulations that make many believe one person is for sure going to win only to go the opposite direction, MJF defeating Hangman at Revolution for example. To that extent, I’ve heard many people sound skeptical to the idea of MJF shaving his head, and they’re right this time around. The weeks of random Darby Allin title defenses reads to me as the company getting the most out of this short reign as possible, while also protecting Darby by playing up the idea that he ran himself into the ground headed into this match. Not all title reigns need to be long and some are best to burn quick but bright. Darby falls into the category.

MJF

ADAM: Just admit that you think the Everest thing was a work!

9-matches, 4 disagreements, 1 doofus who picked Jericho to win. Thanks for reading and leave your comment below with your favorite match. Be sure to make it back here next time for more predictions.
