Money in the bank thumbnail

Trying to decide what Money related song to reference at the beginning of this article was so strenuous I almost tore a quad.

Too soon?

That’s right, it’s time for what has arguably become WWE’s fourth biggest premium live event, Money in the Bank! It feels even bigger this year as it will take place at the O2 Arena in London. Wrestling fans in the UK are passionate and don’t get big-time events often so WWE didn’t have to worry about selling out the venue this year. We currently have seven matches on the card that will feature the usual Money in the Bank matches and most likely will be main evented by the Bloodline Civil War. Adam and Myself are back yet again with predictions so accurate you can go ahead and take them to the bank. I’m allowed to include one bad pun in an article per my seven-figure contract with Talent Alone. Before we get going, here are the point totals following this past weekend’s Forbidden Door PPV.

Not much changed as we only disagreed on two matches, which we ended up splitting. I still have a four point lead so I will once again be going first.

Roman Reigns & Solo Sikoa vs The Usos

Mike: Can I get an “ooh aah” for my tribal chief? Just for old-time’s sake. This is a tough one to call. What it comes down to for me is that I don’t think this is the last time we’ll see these two teams face off. I’m predicting some chicanery will cost the Usos, but what that will be is a whole other question. Are there any relatives left to bring into this? What if Rikishi makes a run-in and turns on his own sons? Stink faces the holy hell out of them! Then he can proclaim, “Once upon a time, I did it for da Rock. Now, I do it for da Roman.”

Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa

Adam: Oh man. OH MAN. Did you know this is the first time we’ll disagree on a Bloodline Civil War match? This has GOT TO be setting up for Jey vs Roman and so the Usos GOT TO go over. Put up the 1’s.

The Usos

Mike: Your sudden betrayal of my Tribal Chief does not sit well with me or the wise-man Paul Heyman.

Seth “Freaking” Rollins (C ) vs Finn Balor:

World Heavyweight Championship

Adam: Prince Devitt against whatever Jabroni ass name Seth Rollins had in the Indies. This reminds me a lot of the Finn vs Brock match at the Royal Rumble a few years ago. It’ll be a compelling match with a false finish or 20 but Seth will walk in the champion and he’ll walk out the champion.

Seth Rollins

Mike: The outcome of this match is pretty obvious. The bigger mystery will be if we get Balor in the demon get up or not. Remember when that was just something cool he did for big matches and then WWE made it cringey by acting like it was some separate character?

Seth “Freakin” Rollins

Adam: Wait, is this match CrossFit Jesus vs The Demon? Did the Bible warn us about this match?

Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler (C ) vs. Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan:

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

Mike: Glad to see the unification of the NXT and WWE Women’s tag belts. The company didn’t have the depth for both and didn’t spend time booking them, especially the main roster ones. It’s wild to see where Rousey is right now. Hoping she and Baszler can make something out of this title run, and part of that should be them winning here. Also, can we turn Rodriguez heel? At least make her babyface gimmick more depth than she smiles and flexes.

Team UFC

Adam: If you want to make the case that WWE will never be matched in their ability to book the Women’s division, maybe don’t use the tag belts to support your argument. These belts are a lot like how the Men’s tag belts have been treated until…. well sort of always. Seems like the inertia of hoping Rousey will get over will carry them straight through MITB and onto the next Pay-Per-View.

Cody Rhodes vs Dominik Mysterio

Adam: If only Money in the Bank fell on a holiday.

I’m of two minds about this.

On one hand, Cody needs to win if he’s going to get the belt off Roman like everyone keeps telling me. On the other hand, Dom is arguably more important to the future of the company. I think it’ll be Cody but it’ll be some bullshit like DQ or something.

Cody Rhodes

Mike: First you turn your back on Roman and now you spit in the face of Dom Dom and Mami?! I don’t even know who you are anymore. I’m banking on a Bork Laser interference to cost Rhodes the match and Dom getting to gloat that he’s the greatest second-generation star in the biz.

Dominik Mysterio

Gunther vs Matt Riddle:

Intercontinental Championship

Mike: Bleh. I’ve really soured on Riddle over the past couple of years. I just find him kinda annoying. He’s another guy I think would be better slotted as a heel. My prediction is that come Sunday, Gunther will be somewhere in London kicking back and smoking a stogie with the IC belt still in his possession.

Gunther

Adam: Gunther is what all the fucking BOLA marks promised us Dominik Dijakovic would be. I would much rather feast my eyes on Gunther. That felt right and oddly sexual.

Gunther

Men’s Money in the Bank

Here are your contestants: Ricochet vs. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. LA Knight vs. Santos Escobar vs. Butch vs. Damian Priest vs. Logan Paul

Adam: Alright we all know who should win this. So let’s go process of elimination while I decide if I’m gonna let my heart or my head make the pick. Ricochet just exists to be in Money in the Bank matches at this point, Shinsuke is probably happier without having to appear on 2 shows a week, Santos Escobar – no, Butch will only win if the briefcase is held up by joints he can manipulate 6/5 stars, Damian Priest is too tall. So it’s down to 2. Going with my heart.

LA Knight

Mike: I did a little preview of the two MITB matches on the debut episode of our new pro wrestling podcast. In that, I said Logan Paul is the betting favorite and I still believe that. I’m also positive he will have a couple of crazy athletic highspots that will go viral and people will start tweeting that he’s the greatest wrestler on the planet. Don’t get me wrong he’s been impressive and when he cashes in to win the world title, he’ll still be a more credible champ than the Miz was.

Logan Paul

Women’s Money in the Bank

Here are your contestants: Zelina Vega vs. Becky Lynch vs. Zoey Stark vs. Bayley vs. Iyo Sky vs. Trish Stratus

Mike: I see two top options here in either Bayley or Iyo Sky. If Bayley wins I’m sure she’d cash in on a weakened and beaten champion. If Sky wins, I hope they go the route of challenging Asuka ahead of time. They don’t do that often because they like to get the pop of the Money in the Bank holder coming out and the moment of an “unexpected” title change. With all that in mind, I’m picking Bayley. It just fits her character more and they could move her into a feud with Sky coming out of it to buy time until they have her cash in.

Bayley

Adam: I low-key hate when people use the case to challenge someone to a match ahead of time. That’s dumb. Do you want to win or do you want the “Lady Byng” award? Give the briefcase to heels, let them cash in as soon as a champion retains at a pay-per-view, and make that a storyline. It’s an infinitely long treadmill that will pop me every time. All you need for good storytelling is tension and a ticking clock. WITH ALL THAT SAID, my coconspirator in writing about Pro-Wrestling is correct in a way.
