Folks, it’s PPV time and in trad (short for Traditional) AEW (short for All Elite Wrestling) style, there are figuratively 9000 matches. Mike and I are back to continue our year-long prediction for who knows ball best and who knows ball the rest.
Mike went a craaaaaazy 3-1 at Elimination Chamber to bring his record to 59-31 on the year, while I continued to play with an arm tied behind my back because the people love a comeback. I pulled within 12 of Mike by going 1-3 for a current record of 48-42.
But that’s the past, and it’s time to talk about the now. Mike and I have our predictions below, and spoiler alert, I made more picks than Mike. Enough preamble, no one needs to hear about this, let’s get to the predictions!
AEW World Championship Last Chance Texas Death Match:
MJF (c) vs “Hangman” Adam Page
ADAM: If Hangman Page loses, he can NEVER challenge for the belt again, which kind of takes the wind out of the sails of the match. There is virtually no way the Hangman loses, but the question should be: how does he win? With Ospreay coming back soon, could it be time for a Hangman heel turn?
“HANGMAN” ADAM PAGE
MIKE: I completely understand the conventional thought that, due to the stipulation of the match, Hangman is obviously going to win. However, I don’t think it’s as much of a lock as people expect. There’s nothing you can’t book your way out of in pro wrestling. Down the line, the company can easily do some sort of angle or story to walk back Page no longer being able to challenge for the belt. Is it usually best for business or very entertaining to watch when a promotion walks back on something like that? Most of the time, no. However, some will talk themselves into it if they think the shock of MJF retaining and the intrigue over what Hangman does next will be so good that it’ll be worth the headache later of undoing the stipulation.
MJF
AEW World Tag Team Championship:
FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) (c) vs The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson)
MIKE: It’s time for FTR vs Young Bucks V, and I… am not as hyped as I thought I would be. The reason could be that those previous four matches happened over a span of five years, and not in a situation where they had three of them all in the same year, then after a lot of time went by, locked up again. Instead, they’ve faced each other in 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024, and now 2026. The mega-showdown between two of the greatest tag teams in the world has started to feel like something AEW just goes to on a yearly basis. Personal vibes aside, the match is still going to be great, and potentially the best on the card. Dave Meltzer is already polishing the 6+ stars he’s going to give it. The Bucks have spent the past year on their redemption tour, building themselves back up and getting back everything they lost storyline-wise. Winning the tag belts would put the cap on that story and would also put them ahead in the rivalry 3-2.
THE YOUNG BUCKS
ADAM: Despite Mike’s Marvel Fatigue at the two best tag teams wrestling again, I am excited for this match. With Face Bucks and Heel FTR, there’s a chance this is their most unique match in AEW. I also think the important question to figure out who is walking away with the belts is: who makes the most sense against Cope and Christian?
FTR
AEW Continental Championship No Time Limit:
Jon Moxley (c) vs Konosuke Takeshita
ADAM: If the Khan family weren’t COWARDS, this match would be longer than The Irishman to really milk the gimmick, but these are the same sickos who REFUSED to play Travis Hunter 100% of the snaps. Yes, I know I’ve lost ⅔ of the wrestling fan audience.
JON MOXLEY
MIKE: You know what would be a great way to sell the no-time-limit aspect of this match? If the company announced that they are preemptively cutting two other matches from the card to save time. Really paint the picture that we’re about to get a marathon of a match, and then have Takeshita hit Mox with the running knee and win in under a minute.
KONOSUKE TAKESHITA
ADAM: Mike is also a COWARD for not mentioning Travis Hunter.
AEW Women’s World Championship Two out of Three Falls:
Thekla (c) vs Kris Statlander
MIKE: Statlander is good at what she does; however, she doesn’t move the needle for me as champ. Been there, done that. There are more interesting routes to take and matches to book by continuing on with Thekla as champ. AEW could also really benefit from building up more women who stand out and feel like big-time stars. Thekla has the potential to be one of those stars.
THEKLA
ADAM: I honestly see a really good case to flip the title back. After Thekla won it in a strap match, if Statlander wins the two-out-of-three falls, it could set up some ridiculous stipulation for the final match in the series. Maybe an Andromedan Street Fight where they can use any weapons they find in the void of cold, endless space.
KRIS STATLANDER
AEW World Trios Championship:
The Don Callis Family (Kazuchika Okada, Kyle Fletcher, & Mark Davis) (c) vs Mistico & JetSpeed (“The Jet” Kevin Knight & “Speedball” Mike Bailey
ADAM: I don’t care what the odds are or what the booking choices in the other matches are that could reflect long-term story decisions about the Don Callis Family. I’m simply not picking a person who is going to wear Slay the Spire II trunks to the ring.
THE DON CALLIS FAMILY
MIKE: The owner of the Las Vegas Raiders is a member of the Don Callis Family?! That faction is really starting to get out of hand. I hate that this is where Kazuchika Okada is on a PPV card. If you’re going to put someone in a match, make sure the spot fits the star power of the wrestler, or don’t put him in a match at all. That can be said for Kyle Fletcher as well. This guy is supposed to be the fastest-rising young wrestler on the roster. A protostar soon to erupt into a full-on star. How does him being in this match add any fuel to that? With that said, the only thing more short-sighted than putting those two in this low-tier match would be having them lose.
THE DON CALLIS FAMILY
Brody King vs Swerve Strickland
MIKE: It would be great if they continued to build Brody up into a consistent main event guy by giving him the win here. Unfortunately, I logically don’t expect that to happen. Swerve is back to being a heel, which might be where he’s best suited, and it could undercut the momentum from the turn if he were to lose. They also want to keep him as strong as possible for when Kenny Omega eventually returns to face him.
MIKE DID NOT ENTER A PICK
ADAM: I think Mike has the right of it here, but Brody King is starting to turn into AEW’s LA Knight. The audience is behind him big style, and he has his own catchphrase, which just happens to be PTA’s favorite chant in wrestling history. I love heel Swerve, and I sort of wish this was for a major belt… well, now I hope TK doesn’t read this, or he might add another belt just for this match.
SWERVE STRICKLAND
Andrade El Idolo vs Bandido
ADAM: Who is the best pro sports comp for Andrade? Julius Randle? James Harden? Sammy Watkins? Either way, incoming match of the night.
ANDRADE EL IDOLO
MIKE: Not sure about match of the night, but an incoming banger for sure. It’s unfortunate it will be lost in the shuffle of another classic Tony Khan double-digit PPV card. Andrade seems to have more momentum and charisma this time around in AEW. Keep building on that.
ANDRADE EL IDOLO
“Timeless” Toni Storm vs Marina Shafir
MIKE: This has definitely felt like the biggest women’s feud on AEW TV over the past couple of months, which isn’t surprising considering Toni Storm is still the biggest name on the women’s roster. It’s possible that the winner of this match will be the next person to challenge the winner of the Women’s title match. If my predictions prove to be true, Thekla will still be the champ at the end of the night, and in that case, I could see Storm as the next championship challenger after beating Shafir in what should be a very physical match. As a side note, we can all agree that this match being billed as “everyone being banned from ringside” means someone is 100% going to interfere.
“TIMELESS” TONI STORM
ADAM: I’m taking odds for bald Yuta to show up within 12 minutes at -180. I think that IF there is interference, this is a walk for Toni Storm to draw this feud to an end. My hope is that there is some kind of chicanery and Toni moves onto a feud against a male wrestler. I think that would be a sick direction for her character, but hey, no one likes fantasy booking.
“TIMELESS” TONI STORM
AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship:
The Babes of Wrath (Harley Cameron & Willow Nightingale) (c) vs Megan Bayne & Lena Kross
ADAM: This is an excellent point to stick the landing and dismount for The Babes of Wrath (or Authors of Pain v2). They are, and forever will be, the inaugural champs, but Willow Nightingale is a little wasted in a stitched-together tag team and needs to return to the upper mid-card on her own.
MEGAN BAYNE & LENA KROSS
MIKE: I’m not against keeping the belts on The Babes for longer. I’m also just fading Adam because I don’t have a strong take for this one.
THE BABES OF WRATH
Darby Allin, Orange Cassidy, & Roderick Strong vs The Dogs (David Finlay, Clark Connors, & Gabe Kidd)
MIKE: Finlay, Connors, and Kidd obviously couldn’t use The Bullet Club War Dogs faction name once they came to AEW, but was it really worth making the connection by going with just “The Dogs?” If anything, that sounds like they all got demoted, but I digress. All three men are talented, with Finlay standing out in particular as a guy who really stepped his game up in NJPW as more talent started to leave Japan for Jacksonville. Giving The Dogs, who are no longer at war, a win over a group of established acts would be a smart move. The other smart move would be to call up legal and see if they can get Hornswoggle out of his WWE Legends contract.
THE DOGS
ADAM: Who is even left in NJPW at this point? The Dogs are going to eat A LOT of pins in AEW, but I think they need an early win to establish themselves, and a win over Orange Cassidy and Darby Allin will do that for you. However, there is one guy I didn’t mention there, and he’ll be the one on his back for the three-count.
THE DOGS
